Roadworks at the Woodbridge Scheduled for Early September 2017

Please be advised that Wiltshire Council are planning to undertake major works to Wood Bridge (see map below). The existing bridge dates from the early C20th and is in a poor condition, the original construction  is such that any maintenance works would be short lived and the best long term solution is reconstruction.

During our initial consultations completed a couple of years ago it was highlighted that any extended road closure could cause considerable inconvenience and disruption to the local communities  and therefore every effort should be made to keep the road open during the works. After looking at a number of options we have come up with the most cost effective solution wherein the first stage will be to widen the existing bridge on the downstream side thus giving sufficient width to do the work in two halves.  Temporary two way traffic signals will be used to control the traffic across the bridge to keep both the contractor and the public safe during the work. Unfortunately we  will however still need  two full  closures of no more than a day each to allow a mobile crane to be set up to lift the new concrete bridge sections in and then another one day closure at the end of the scheme to resurface the full width of the road.

The works are due to commence in early September with completion due just before Christmas, the dates of the individual day closures will be advised once the contractors programme is known.

Over the past couple of months, work has been progressing on the lower playing field, the old fence has been removed and a new metal fence, that will last a lot longer than an equivalent wooden fence has been put in in it's place, also the bark chippings, have now been replaced with high tech soft landing areas, and these areas have been seeded to blend in with the rest of the grass.

The Ship Inn vs Villagers Sportsday Photos

On Sunday we had a competition in the lower playing field of The Ship Inn vs The Villagers at what Jane would like to call "Baseball" (more like rounders!!!), with the use of a heay iron frying pan as the bat, and beer barrels as "bases" we played. The Ship took a substantial lead in the first innings, but were clawed back in the second innings and at thhe break we had a lovely picnic provided by Jane at the Ship. After the break we played on and with a home run by Henry Willman the eventual winners were THE VILLAGERS!!!!!. Here are some pictures from the afternoon click on the picture to get a bigger size.
