Sarsen Trail Sponsored Walk – Sunday 30th April 2017

As you may be aware, the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust organises an annual sponsored walk and marathon from Avebury to Old Carter Barracks, Bulford, via Redhorn Hill.  The event attracts up to 2500 walkers and runners who are helping to raise money for the nature conservation work that the Trust undertakes throughout Wiltshire.  The event may impact your parishioners on the day and we are writing to inform you of the measures in place to mitigate the effects.

All road crossings are marshalled, permissions are sought from all land owners and all organisations before the event takes place.

As in previous years, the event starts from Averbury (the National Trust has been notified and we will vacate the village by 11am), proceeds through Beckhampton to All Cannings via Hatfield farm, the Lydeway and on to Redhorn Hill.  A one-way traffic system will be implemented from 08.00 to 18.00 on Redhorn Hill.  This is necessary in the interests of safety and to avoid motorised and pedestrian congestion.  The one-way system will start at Foxley Corner, go up Redhorn Hill.

From Redhorn Hill the route goes south across Salisbury Plain to the Busted turning east past the racecourse to Martin’s Bushes crossing the A345 and proceeding to Old Carter Barracks, Bulford.

There is also a circular cycle route that starts and finishes at Old Carter Barracks, Bulford and follows the perimeter road around Salisbury Plain.

The trail route remains open to the public as usual. It is appreciated that local parishioners regularly use the route and we apologise for any inconvenience that might be caused.
