Talk by Lt Gen D Leakey  CMG CVO CBE, Black Rod 2011 – 2018

General David Leakey who retired recently as Black Rod or, to use the full

title Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod, will give a talk on

Saturday 27th April at Enford Village Hall.

Money raised from the talk will go to ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.

He gives a fascinating and amusing insight to the role of Black Rod, which

is so much more than just the ceremonial role at the State Opening of

Parliament and banging on the door to summon the House of Commons to the

House of Lords. He also reveals a good deal of the goings-on behind the

scenes in the Parliamentary corridors but promises not to mention Bercow or

Bullying unless provoked, and certainly not Brexit!

He comes from a distinguished military family with two Victoria Crosses and

had an amazing career himself after reading law at Fitzwilliam College,

Tickets will be £15 a head, which will include a glass of wine and light

bites beforehand.  To book a place, please contact Tony Blanch (01980

671307) or Judy D’Arcy Irvine (01980 670501).  Cash or cheques (made out to

‘ABF The Soldiers’ Charity’) can be paid on the night at the door.

Doors open at 6.00 p.m. for the talk 6.30 - 8.00 p.m, including questions at

7.30 after a 10 min break.

Most of the 100 tickets available have been sold to this is a reminder to all those thinking of coming!
